Thu, Jan 28th 2016 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Weekly meeting with guest speakers
Rotarians attended their weekly meeting on
Thursday night to hear a relevant and highly topical talk and discussion on the
work of the Hawick Flood Group. President Mairhi Trickett welcomed David
Chapman and Duncan Taylor of the Group to explain the role they fulfil.
Formed in 2005 the volunteer group help and advise townspeople on how to protect
their properties in the event of flooding which has been particularly prevalant
recently. They operate in liaison with the police, fire brigade, ambulance
service and other emergency groups when the need arises and also draw up a
register for an "early warning system" in the event of impending floods as well
as advising on protection aids. At present their HQ is an old porta-cabin
at the Leisure Centre which has proved invaluable and they are able to draw on
the diverging experience and expertise contained among their Group.
Discussion followed after which the President gave the duo a warm vote of thanks
for the excellent service the Group is giving to the town.
