Hawick Rotary Club lost one of its senior
members last week with the passing of nonagenarian and former hosiery
executive Archie Purves, who died in a retirement home at
North Berwick and was cremated at Melrose. A number of club
members attended the service. Archie, an active and highly respected Past
President of the Club and a Paul Harris Fellow had been a Rotarian for over
half-a-century.
There was no meeting last week when,
instead, the club had a "scatter week" and members went in small groups to visit
neighbouring Rotary Clubs in the Borders which was much enjoyed by
all.
