President Jim Walker welcomed three
Rotarian visitors to last week's meeting of the Rotary Club when President Anne
Wright of the Kelso club and her husband Mick attended. The other was the
speaker Past President Douglas Forsyth of the Selkirk club who gave an excellent
presentation of a project the Selkirk club are undertaking in 2018 to Manila in
the Phillipines. A party of fifteen are going there to Naga City to supply
mattresses and other needy equipment to the Queen of Peace Children's Home as
well as sanitation improvements to six local schools through a connection with the
wife of the Selkirk President Ferdous Ahmed and, rather than just sending the
money to a local Rotary club, decided to take it there personally and hand it
over as well as undertaking some of the work along with the locals.
Rotarian Ron Sutherland and his wife Pat of the Hawick club will accompany the
Selkirk party. About £6,000 in total will require to be raised as Selkirk's share of the project and
various events are planned as well as seeking support from other Border
clubs. The talk generated a lot of interest and Ron Sutherland gave the
vote of thanks and wished Douglas and the club much success in the
project.
President Jim and Rotarians Robin Mason,
Sandy Bannerman and Ron and Pat Sutherland assisted Kelso Rotary Club at the
Springwood Park School's Day last week.
