A good turnout of members attended last
week's meeting of the Rotary Club with President Scott Elliot in the
chair. The District Governor Lindsay Craig of Currie/Balerno Rotary Club
visited the club accompanied by Derek Douglas. Derek was familiar with
Hawick as he was District Manager of British Relay in the 1960's and recalled
emotional visits to the Hut at St Leonards at the Common Riding
ceremonies. Lindsay brought greetings from Rotary International's
President Ian H S Riseley from Melbourne, Australia and highlighted his message
to Rotarians world-wide as "Rotary - making a difference" which can be applied
to all aspects of Rotary. This resulted in an interesting discussion
session appreciated by the Club. The highlight of the evening was the
induction of Tommy Stevenson into the club as a full member after which he gave
an excellent acceptance reply. Tommy is well-known through his work with the Boys Brigade movement, Teviothead Parish Church as well as his
life-time contribution to wrestling when his professional name
was Scott Thomson.
