President Linden Warburton welcomed members for their weekly meeting and meal at the Mansfield House Hotel. After the meal Immediate Past President Mairhi Trickett introduced their speaker Rosie Shields. After a career in the RAF and then running a cattery for 10 years, Rosie moved from England to the Borders. She had always been interested in birds – especially raptors – and she became a volunteer at Born in the Borders, involved with the ospreys which nest there. She was instrumental in improving their nesting site and installing a camera which feeds a screen in the cafe. Rosie gave a fascinating talk on the ospreys which have come each year to the nest from their winter residence in The Gambia. Two successful families of three babies each have been raised and, if the young female who was present this year returns, hopefully next year there will be more in the future. After questions from members the President thanked Rosie for her excellent presentation and after a small amount of business closed the meeting.
