"My Job" was the subject of the talk given by the newest member of Rotherham Rotary Club, Alan Seaman, at this week's lunchtime meeting. He spoke about his thirty years in the Fire Service. Alan was born and brought up in Rotherham, and he recounted his early life leading up to his joining the West Riding Fire Brigade at the age of eighteen. He related several anecdotes about life in the Brigade forty years' ago to the amusement of members, including his first fire attended at the Whiston Manorial Barn. In 1974 the South Yorkshire Fire Brigade came into being, and Alan had several promotions, mainly in Fire Prevention, rising to be Deputy Chief Fire Officer before he retired to become a Fire Safety Consultant. He ended by outlining recent changes that have taken place nationally in the Service.
Past President David Parkes gave the formal thanks, saying he had learned much about the Fire Service from the talk.
