The Jack Evans Award Winners – Giving Something Back To Their Communities

On Friday 15th April the Rotary Club of Uxbridge hosted their annual Jack Evans Awards at the Middlesex Suite in the Civic Centre. The Awards celebrate the achievements in service to the community of young people from seven Secondary Schools within the London Borough of Hillingdon in honour of the late Jack Evans OBE, a long standing Rotarian, who served the community of Hillingdon and was the first Head Teacher of Abbotsfield. At his request, the Award is open to the following Schools: Abbotsfield, Harefield Academy, Swakeleys, Vyners, Bishopshalt, Uxbridge High and Douay Martyrs. 

In the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon Cllrs. George and Judith Cooper, Katherine Wilkinson, Jack's daughter, and the President of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge Rtn. Mike Crane, this year’s winners spoke of their work both within their Schools but also in their community.  From attending the ‘Big Sleep Out’ charity event in aid of the Homeless to supporting young students for whom English is not their first language, the achievements of the young people was both humbling and impressive. 

The Mayor of Hillingdon praised the contribution that the young people had made within their communities and said, ‘You are a credit to your Schools and your communities…and it is pleasure for me to be hear what you have achieved and to be able to present these Awards.’. The Club's Secretary, Richard Hanson, went on to say; ‘The Jacks Evans Award’ Event is always a highlight of the Rotary year, the young people inspiring confidence for the future’.
