Ambassadorial Scholar Iain Cruickshank Tries His Hand At Fly Tying

Iain Cruickshank one of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars being hosted by Esk Valley Rotary  is a keen fisherman and has fished for trout and salmon 'back home' in the USA (Colorado), and brought his rod with him on the off-chance of a bit of fishing.

Iain is being hosted by Esk Valley Rotarian Maurice Jackson who intend to introduce him to a bit of fishing in Scotland and used a fly-tying session to introduce him to some of his fishing buddies.  They all had an attempt to tie the 'Red Francis' salmon fly - an Icelandic pattern and one of the most successful fishing lures used on the river Dee.  Iain showed real skill and made a very good effort at mastering what is a tricky pattern to tie.

A fishing trip is being planned for the spring, probably involving a loch, a boat and lots of rowing (guess what fit young man will be volunteered for that!).
