INTERNATIONAL & FOUNDATION COMMITTEE
Programme 2014/2015
UPDATE - JANUARY 2015
Chairman: Robert Ankcorn
Foundation Officer: Colin Hunter
Cure
In August a donation of 200 was sent to Cure International. This amount was sufficient to treat a child in Malawi with club foot and to enable that child to lead a normal life.
Hope and Homes
A donation to Hope and Homes for children was sent in November which attracted matched funding so that our contribution was worth double. These funds will help provide social support for families who foster or adopt children. Rwanda in particular aims to close all orphanages in the very near future through project Ubuntu. We are anticipating an update on this project in March with a speaker from Hope and Homes.
Ebola in West Africa
Brighouse Rotary Club have appealed through District for funds to provide 2 ambulances for Sierra Leone. Through the support of Sainsburys supermarket International were able to collect in store in early December and over 500 was raised. Thanks both to Sainsburys and Ripon people who contributed. The International Committee agreed that funds allocated for a Sand Dam project in Kenya may be better allocated to this appeal (the Dam project had already indicated a hold up) and so nearly a 1000 was sent.
Tools for Self Reliance
We had an interesting talk from this charity in September which sends refurbished tools to projects in Africa. A gentle reminder to members that Mark Henshaw, who organises collection, refurbishment and storage of the tools is hoping for some help with this and larger storage facilities. If anyone can help with this please contact International chair Robert Ankcorn.
