On 8 February 2008 we gained a fascinating insight to the working life of the Borough’s Deputy Mayor, Helen Lee-Parsons who was appointed to the post in May 2007 and will serve for one year. She explained that in addition to her normal duties as a local councillor she had on a number of occasions to stand in for the Mayor at events which he was not able to attend and has managed to continue with her work on the Adult social care and housing and the Education and Education and children’s services committees.

Helen told us of the success of the Citizenship ceremonies that now regularly take place in York House and reminded us of the three concerts held on the sunken lawn of York House during the summer. She told us of some of the highlights of the year and showed she is a keen supporter of the Mayor’s selected charities for this year – Stepping on Out, a  local not for profit organisation, run by people with learning disabilities making their own greetings cards, bookmarks and other goods - and Diabetes UK.
