'What We Do' - Internationally

We dedicate a proportion of the money we receive each year as donations from the public to charities operating internationally. We aim particularly to support small independent charities with a Scottish connection where our contribution can make a difference.

We feature on this page:

·      The Turing Trust, which provides re-furbished discarded computers for schools and educational establishments in Africa;

·      LendwithCare, which provides the facility to lend to small entrepreneurs in developing countries, helping them to find their own route out of poverty.

·      Freedom from Fistula, a charity founded by Dame Ann Gloag to help women in Africa suffering from obstetric fistula.

But there’s so much more:

·      We support End Polio Now, ShelterBox and Aquabox as listed under “What we do – Rotary Charities”.

We have also supported;

·      the Visoi Children’s Centre in Kenya, established by Ailsa Thom, a former resident of Kingsknowe;

·      500 Miles, a charity founded by Edinburgh lawyer Olivia Giles, herself a quadruple amputee, to help people in Africa with mobility difficulties;

·      Malaria No More in response to an appeal from Kristine Silvestri, a Rotary Scholar studying at Edinburgh University;

·      the Arnhem School in Thailand started and funded by a former Craiglockhart resident.
