Georgia Rotary Student Programme (GRSP)
Every year three Rotary Districts in Georgia, USA, sponsor up to sixty-seven students from around the world to study at one of Georgia's Universities for an academic year.
We advise our local high schools of these opportunities and in June each year we hold an information meeting for students, and their parents, who may be interested in applying.
This is really a wonderful opportunity for these young people as the costs covered are for all their education fees, board and lodgings and books - this programme is worth in the region of $30,000! Apart from spending money the only costs covered by themselves (or their parents!) are their flights, insurance, sitting a SAT, visa and ESTA - total cost to a successful applicant is in the region of £3,000. We are delighted that out of sixty-seven students from around the world our Club has sent between two and five each year. They have all benefited from this great life experience.
Applicants MUST be 18 years old on or before 1st August in the year they will go out to Georgia.
HIROSHI KOMATSU – ROTARY SCHOLAR 2022 - 3
Last month we said farewell to Natalie Hodde, our Rotary Scholar from Texas. This month we welcome Hiroshi Komatsu from Japan, who will be supported by the Club
He was met at Edinburgh Airport by John Wilson. John was to take Hiroshi to his temporary accommodation near Holyrood Park – not the easiest trip since this was Monday 12 September, when they were not the only ones making their way to Holyrood. But they made it!
Hiroshi is a mature student in his 30s, married – his wife works for the UN in Jordan – with one child. He has a degree in Sports Science and is to study for an MSc in Sport Policy, Management International Development at the University of Edinburgh. He looks forward to coming to Currie Balerno Rotary, when we shall learn more about him
