Club History

Three founding members initiated Loch Ness Rotary Club in the Spring of 1990.

They were  Hector MacDonald, Ian A MacDonald (both still members of our club) and the late Ronnie Brenmer.

They recruited most of the original members. The Archive Centre have early records and early membership lists.

Nicol Manson also joined some of the early meetings at Nicos in the Glenmhor Hotel, Inverness

The Club's Inaugural dinner was held on 17th August later that year.

The Club was formed during the with the support and assistance of our mother Club, the Rotary Club of Inverness and their President John Lough.  The Club formation had also been overseen by District Extension Officer Doug Westland who had formed only one Club before Loch Ness but assisted in forming another 57 after us.

The Club was formed with 35 founder members and first Club President Hector MacDonald was presented with the Charter by then District Governor Colin Risk at a dinner held in the Lochardil Hotel on Friday 7th December 1990 where the Rotary Club of Loch Ness joined the family of Rotary.

In the first year the largest donation made was 900 to support a well in Goa in conjunction with WaterAid, a Rotary Charity that is still well supported by the Club and in particular one of our founding members Denis Addly.

The Club celebrated its 10th Charter Celebration dinner on 27th October 2000 under the Chairmanship of President Ian MacPhail.

The 20th was held under the Presidency of Ken Mackie

Our 25th Charter Celebration  took place in December 2015 under the presidency of Nicol Manson
