Our speaker at our meeting today was Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar Jomain McKenzie from Jamaica,.
24 year old Jomain, who is being hosted by Luton Someries Rotary Club, is currently studying at Bedfordshire University and gave us an entertaining and amusing account of life in his home country, and a vivid description of his own achievements at school , university and with the Ashe Company.
On leaving school he won a scholarship to East Central University in Oklahoma but on arrival found that the scholarship did not exist. Undeterred he decided that he was not going back home as many others would have done, instead he involved himself in the many activities and societies at University and among other things worked on the University journal, eventually becoming Editor-in-Chief. He also became a member of Roteract where he and his other colleagues raised $5000 for polio eradication. It was not long before he became its President.
