2012 Walk

THE  THREE DALES WALK

This is the 25th year of the 50/50 sponsored walk organised by the Rotary Club of Redcar, so we are going back to where we began - Blakey Ridge. We are offering two walks on Sunday 9 September heading out of Blakey into Farndale and the old rail bed towards Ingleby Incline. 

We turn back to "Fat Betty" (marked "White Cross" on the map) and the walks split a little further on with the shorter (Family) walk heading into Rosedale and returning to Blakey via the Rosedale rail bed (7 miles). The longer walk heads towards Great Fryup Dale and joins the Wainwright Coast to Coast route to the dale head.Here we turn right along one of the many trods that cross the moor to reach the Rosedale road and the Rosedale rail bed where we turn left to walk past the iron ore mining remains. We cross the dale and re-join the rail bed to return to Blakey (12 miles). 

Last year the walk supported the Redcar Lifeboat and raised just over £1,000 which enabled the station to replace its weather monitoring equipment. The balance was put towards the new lifeboat. The new boat - Leicester Challenge 3 - has been delivered and it is a real step up from the former boat, so thanks go to all our walkers for your efforts. 

This year we would like to support three Redcar based charities - Teesside Homeless Action Group (Redcar) who provide information and support for single homeless people and help with finding accommodation, Coastwatch which provides a surveillance service for people who use the beach and inshore waters for recreational purposes and The Junction which supports young people to deal with life's challenges. We feel that as money raised comes from local people we should use it to support local causes.
