Freya Simpson, St. Andrews Rotary Club's EuroScholar talks about her experiences visiting Strasburg and the European Parliament

Each year the St. Andrews Rotary Club in common with many other Rotary Clubs choses a senior school pupil to attend The European Parliament in Strassbourgh.   This year the chosen scholar was Freya Simpson a final year pupil at Madras College.

Member Gordon Wolk introduced Freya a young woman with an interest in the environment, a love of horse riding, athletics and animals and a plan to attend Glasgow University  after taking a year out.  For her year out Freya is planning to spend some time in France then travelling throughout Europe, America and Asia.

Using her slides Freya took her audience through her five days in Strassbourg beginning with some time exploring the city.  On day two the young people were captivated by the beautiful animated clock showing strangely a half hour time difference from the other side of the nearby canal.   The next day consisted in team building exercises when the participants were asked the question "Where will you be in five years time?"

Freya valued in  particular the meeting and mixing with other scholars from 22 countries and cultures but having many things in common and where the benefit of their language skills training came to the fore.  The scholars had to take part in discussions on various topics culminating in their presenetations.

To conclude her well received and presented  talk Freya thanked Rotary for the privillege of attending the European Parliament explaining that she now understood what goes on there and how it works as well as renewing her love of languages.
