.Euroscola Klair Stadnik talks about her Visit to Strasbourg

Clair Stadnik a pupil at Madras College spoke to the Rotary Club about her experience of visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg earlier this year as a Euroscola. Clair and another pupil were sponsored by the Rotary to attend the Parliament. Clair has been studying French since Primary 7 and is also studying Higher Politics at school and has a keen interest in the function of the European  Union. This trip was therefore a mixture of all of her interests.

All the students from Scotland conducted a street survey in Strasbourg using their skills in French. They were trying to find out how people viewed Scotland and Europe and it was a great chance to speak French openly and have a proper conversation with the locals. Clair also enjoyed the time spent getting to know the city and having fun sampling the local delicacies.

The group spent a day deciding on questions to ask the following day in the Parliament. Clair was the first person in her group to ask a question to the 500 people in attendance. Her question which was asked in French related to what the European Union was doing to tackle the refugee crisis at the moment and into the future. Later on all the students from different countries discussed the issue of refugees and the results were fed back to the Parliament.

Clair felt that the whole experience had been so thought provoking and she had learnt so much and was able to improve on her speaking of French. She is still in touch with students she met on the trip.

Clair thanked the Rotary Club for making this all possible and Hamish Tait spoke for everyone when he gave the vote of thanks and said how competently Clair had delivered her talk to the enjoyment of everyone listening.
