Alan began by thanking the Club for his welcome and saying that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Rotary so far.
Alan started life in Manchester and following college in Stockport, began work at 18. However work didn't initially agree with him and the lure of travel through Europe in a 2CV with friends followed. After time in various countries, including France Germany and Greece, Alan ended up in a Kibbutz in Israel: hard work. On return to the UK in the early 90's he found his niche in the motor industry, and had a successful career in sales and customer services.
The time spent at work was taking it's toll on quality of life and when they had children Alan decided to have a change. Alan's mother worked in sign language in the NHS and suggested audiology. Alan told of his time with the Mary Hare School for the deaf in Newbury and after gaining a degree he worked for a national company as a trouble shooter ending up in Nottingham. However the travelling became too much and the Nantwich Hearing Centre was opened in March this year.
Alan provides hearing assessments, hearing aids, custom moulds as well as repairs and reprogramming. During his time in audiology he has had to remove many strange objects from patient’s ears including on one occasion no less than 4 rubber hearing aid buds.
Alan, Helen and his children are now well settled in Nantwich and having for many years been involved with the British Legion he decided to join Rotary in Nantwich.
President Rod thanked Alan for his interesting and informative talk.
