A visit from DG Terry Long

Thu, Aug 6th 2015 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

... accompanied by Michael Dynes, chairman of the District Membership Development & Retention committee. Michael talked to the Club about "Rotary Growth Opportunities".

Be a gift ...

An interesting, informative and busy meeting ...

Terry and Michael formed an innovative double-act but, before we heard from them, President Fari presented a cheque for £1687.50 to Dr. Golkar, Clinical Director and Consultant Neuro-radiologist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.  This was the proceeds of the "Taste of Persia" event - plus Gift Aid - at Fari's house earlier in July.  See the event report for more information.

District Governor Terry then reminded us of all the wonderful things going on in Rotary around the world - as well as here in the north east of England.  He was pleased to report that the decline in membership in Rotary International around the world has been reversed, with over 1,000 new members in the UK and Ireland alone.  This was the cue for him to hand over to Michael Dynes, who talked to us, in his own inimitable style, about:-

Michael's presentation focussed on the opportunities for new approaches to both membership and new clubs and hinted at his ideas for a campaign to "Discover Rotary in NE England".  A copy of his presentation can be seen by clicking on the image above.

Michael concluded with a brief review of the Membership Task Force pages on the District website.  Click on the image below to browse them.

In addition to Terry (a member of RC Alnwick) and Michael (a member of RC Derwentside) we also welcomed Len Burns (DG Nominee and a member of RC Newcastle) and Tony Wortman (a Past District Governor and member of RC Seaburn).
