Laissez l´Afrique Vivre -

The eastern part of DR Congo is an area with decades of war, groups of guerillas warriors, millions of dead throughout years. Mostly the violence affects ordinary people, as always. Physical and psychological traumatisation is enormous. The young generation is affected so that you can talk about a lost generation in a society disorganized by violence. LAV works with vulnerable children such as sexually traumatized girls and boys as well as children who have been soldiers, misused in conflicts. Young mothers with their babies (often as result of rapes) are offered safe living and protection within the high walls surrounding the school. LAV works successfully with professional rehabilitation. LAV started 2003 and their work is based on 80% professional training and 20% trauma treatment and literacy. These parts are integrated and the courses extend over half a year. Students may for example be trained as dressmaker, carpenter, electrician, welder, auto mechanic, plumber and computer training. After completing the program, the students get their own "toolbox" with tools suitable for the profession, such as a pedal sewing machine or carpeting tools. LAV supports the students in finding a job or starting up their own business in order to become self-sufficient. LAV has also a certain opportunity to convey micro loan. LAV supports the students during the first two years after the training. The society needs these young persons. According to Congolese conditions they are well educated. Thus these earlier so despised young persons are accepted in society and as many as 75 % of them have so far been self-supporting!
