Hull Young Artist of the Year Competition showcases Hull"™s artistic talent.

Winner of the People's Choice 2015, Tazneen Ullah from Newland School for Girls

  Artwork created by secondary school students from across the city of Hull was on show at Hull’s Central Library in the inaugural Hull Young Artists of the Year Competition.

Students from almost every secondary and special school submitted works under the themes ‘Hull – the city and its people’ and ‘ Open Theme’. There were over 80 entries in the exhibition that ran throughout August and into early September.

The Young Artist of the Year Competition is organised by Holderness Rotary Club in partnership with Hull City Council Culture and Leisure Services.  There were winners in five categories, which were announced at a special awards’ evening on Wednesday 9 September.

The class winners were as follows:-

11-14 age group (Key Stage 3)              Max Rogers from Sir Thomas Ferens Academy (now known as Sirius North)

14-16 age group (Key Stage 4)              Jemima Mitre from St. Mary's College

16-18 age group (6th form Colleges)      Courtney Randall from Wyke College

Specialist Provision                               Elisha Miah from The Boulevard Centre

The People's Choice, which was voted for by members of the public, was won by Tazneen Ullah from Newland School for Girls.

The winning students from each age category were awarded individual certificates and trophies and given a voucher for £75. The People's Choice winner was awarded £100. The winning Schools and Colleges received a trophy to be kept for one year. 

The judges were Councillor Rosie Nicola, Charlie Newham from the Myton Gallery in Hull and Bruce Mulcahy, Member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.

Presentations were made by The Lord Mayor, Councillor Rosie Nicola, Portfolio Holder for Learning and Skills, Phillip Batty, Hull City Director of Marketing, Communities and Legacy, Charlie Newham from the Myton Gallery and President David Sewell and Mary Wallace from the Rotary Club of Holderness.
