Dragon Boat Regatta - 2016

DRAGONBOAT REGATTA

GLOUCESTER DOCKS

SUNDAY MAY 8TH 2016

ENTER YOUR TEAM NOW!

The ever popular and colourful annual Dragonboat Regatta returns to the historic setting of Gloucester Docks on SUNDAY MAY 8TH 2016…and team entries are now OPEN!!

Each year up to 30 teams, both local and from far afield, come together to race against one another in specially constructed 40ft long dragonboats to see who will be crowned this year’s Champion … whilst, at the same time, raising invaluable funds for the host of worthy charities supported by the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn.  Thousands of spectators flock to the Docks to both cheer on their favourites AND enjoy the entertainments laid on, ranging from Danter’s funfair to live music, varied bric-a-brac stalls to, sometimes, belly dancers!  So much going on throughout the day to keep all the family amused and captivated…and, don’t forget, entrance for spectators to the Docks is absolutely FREE!

So what about entering a team? Well, the links below will provide all the information you require but hurry, the number of teams taking part is strictly limited and most years demand exceeds capacity! You’ll need between 10 and 16 paddlers plus a drummer and teams tend to range from companies to societies to pub groups to just groups of friends…and ladies are more than welcome to take part! Don’t worry about equipment – everything is provided, with professional helmsmen on hand to ensure your boat travels in a straight(ish) line!

There is, as you will see, an entry fee and we do ask ALL teams to raise money to support our chosen charities. Our Rotary Club – Gloucester Severn – has, in recent times, given sizeable donations to the Milestone School in Gloucester, Alzheimers, Romanian Orphanage, Cloud 9, Maggie’s, the Nepal Eathquake Appeal, and LINC to name but a few, so you can be assured that the monies raised through this enjoyable event really will help many worthy causes!

Dragon Boats in full flow!

We do hope you will think about entering a team – and doing it! – but in all events hope to see you in ........
