Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Shipley Rotary Club annually sponsor a candidate to attend a RYLA course.

RYLA AIMS: To deliver leadership development for young people who have the potential to be future leaders in Business and the Community.

TO DEVELOP:
Leadership skills
Sense of pride and achievement
The individual as a useful member of society
The importance of teamwork, competition, character, health and tolerance.

RYLA is an annual activity held in a rural setting at a purpose built activity centre. There are two courses, each lasting a week with 32 places, the first course running from the last week in July.
The course is open to young men and women who have passed their 16th birthday, but before their 18th birthday by the end of the course. They should be in full time education or vocational training courses or be apprenticed in local industry.
The course contains a mixture of physical and mental challenges that allow participants to experience
Leadership, Team Building, Communication and Problem Solving skills.
These are based on both indoor and outdoor activities such as:-
Walking, Problem Solving, Water Activities, Orienteering, Raft Building, Presentations etc.

These activities are conducted by experienced proffessional instructors who have worked with Rotary for many years, along with Rotarian mentors.
