Our Annual Frugal lunch was held in the Civic Hall Nantwich at 1pm. on the 13th December 2016

Traditionally we dispense with our normal caterers. Our frugal lunch is prepared and served by Club members and now conforms to a set pattern.

Though when I was President he always provided members with a glass of sherry!

Todays invited guest was Cannon Helen Chantry of the Church of Saint John, Doddington, Cheshire. After the meal she would give the Christmas Address.

Naturally President Christine asked her to say grace. I listened with warmth and understanding and congratulated her afterwards on her choice. Sheinvited the Club to consider the hard work put in by the farmers who had helped to produce the food we were about to eat.

The soup was delicious and I had a second helping, I’m told [ though it may not be true ] was made from Mrs Harvey’ s stock pot. By slowly tilting your bowl you could encourage it to move.

Second helpings were available from Keith Chesters and Keith Burton carrying the huge cauldron around, and were followed by fresh bread rolls and cheese.

The novelty of the meal always makes for a lively party atmosphere.

For her address Helen took the word Frugal and had consulted her Thesaurus.

Frugal –thrifty- economical- careful- balanced- timeliness- the cutting out of waste, she expounded on each words relationship and passed on some of own frugal tips. Finally she asked us to remember the frugal birth of Jesus in a stable two thousand years ago. The very contrast should remind us all to appreciate and celebrate the abundance we all enjoy around us.
