Visitors from China

The Club meeting was visited by Rotarian Sherry Mu from the Rotary Club of Beijing, China and her son, David Nozomu Konno.  Both are Japanese citizens but Sherry’s work as the owner of an information technology company has led her to live in the Chinese capital for the last ten years.  They were welcomed to the club by President Charles Anderson.

Sherry told the meeting that the Beijing club was founded three years ago and now has over fifty members three quarters of whom are female.  Chinese nationals are not yet allowed by the state to join Rotary clubs although this rule does not extend to those from Hong Kong where such clubs have existed for many years.

Sherry was visiting the area to see her son who is in his first year at Atlantic College, St Donats Castle.  David told the club that he was taking the International Baccalaureate course.  In perfect English he told members about his studies which he was very much enjoying.  He is taking Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics together with English Economics and Arabic.  In addition to English he is already fluent in Japanese and Chinese.

Sherry thanked Rotary for the warm welcome and presented President Charles with a banner from the Beijing club;  in return she was presented with a Llantwit Major banner to take back to her club in China.
