Rev Rob Wykes

Rev Rob Wykes, who originally came to speak to the Club about Crewe Christian Concern (3C’s) in 2004 visited the Club again to update us on the developments, which have taken place over the years.

They are now known as the St Pauls Centre and in addition to collecting unwanted furniture and either giving it to those in need or selling it on a Friday morning at St Paul’s ,they are providing employment to disadvantaged members.

Cycle Re-Use ?

Using our networks, they collect for refurbishment 400 cycles a year and have a fully kitted out workshop in which 6 volunteers and one paid trainee transform cycles.

St Paul’s Pantry (aka Crewe FoodBank) has been up and running now since March 2013.

They  support individuals and families in crisis by providing emergency food in partnership with the local churches in and around Crewe.  Over 30 local churches and community groups are collecting packets and tins each Sunday and then bring them to St Paul’s Centre for sorting and redistribution.

Their team is working with local organisations to support families through challenging times. We are working with organisations like Christians Against Poverty, Social work teams, Youth and Community workers to provide short term support for families while they get back on their feet.  These organisations get in touch with us and we then put together a food parcel to fit their family size.

Making a Difference

Supporting adults with a learning disability

At St Paul’s Centre they are committed to helping adults with learning disabilities to engage and be an integral part of a working environment, ensuring that appropriate individual support is given to achieve this. They are committed to providing an individualised approach, through bespoke programmes of engagement built around practical responsibilities and activities that currently take place within the centre.  The nature of their work involves high levels of team work and cooperation as well as opportunity to develop skills related to practical responsibilities.

Computer Club

They believe every individual, whatever their circumstances, deserves the opportunity to develop and grow. We want people to learn new skills and abilities and for them to leave our training courses feeling good about what they can do and what they can bring to their community. As such, they run a wide selection of training programmes supporting adult learning.

Finally Rob mentioned about his book entitled ‘It’s Not About Furniture’, which has just been published.

Stuart Rhodes then proposed a vote of thanks to Rob for all the great work he is achieving for the deprived community in the Crewe area.

President Christine announced that the Club had receiver thank you letters St Luke’s and Alzheimers Society for the Cheques they had received from our Christmas Float Collections. The Alzheimers Society mentioned that the money would be used locally.
