Elaine King from the Royal British Legion spoke of the Support Group within the local branch for members who are in need of help:-
The role of the member support officer is an important and vital role in the
structure of the Nantwich and District branch, The member support officer is the
point of contact that members may call in times of need or comfort and will make
regular, agreed telephone contact with members who request it .
The member
support officer must be able to sympathetically converse with the members and
earn there trust by building a suitable relationship.
They must be organised
and able to present progress of the members keeping all information
confidential at the branch meetings,
They should, ideally, be mobile and be
prepared to undertake limited, accompanied visits if and when required.
The
member support officer reviews all branch meetings attendance list and
discretely contact the more senior meeting attenders, to enquire of their
well-being,if no apologies was sent to the secretary.
As a means of
promoting interest in the Royal British Legion this initiative is both simple
and effective, moreover it encompasses all of the caring principles espoused by
the Royal British Legion publicity material, and at almost no financial cost .
Tony Coxhill porposed a vote of thanks for an interesting sight into the work of the British Legion.
