Thursday 22nd March - St Mary's Purton triumphs this year in our Junior Schools Quiz

Rotary Junior Quiz 2018

Following on from their success in January's Youth Speaks competition, St Mary's from Purton beat five other schools to win the annual Junior Schools Quiz at Marsh Farm Hotel on Thursday evening.

Teams from Ashton Keynes, Broad Hinton, Longleaze, Noremarsh, St Bartholomew's and St Mary's faced questions on subjects ranging from History and Science through to Sport and Entertainment. Teams had to decide on a round to play their Joker, which doubled their score, and those that chose to play it on the Music round, comprising first lines of songs by current artists, "enjoyed" hearing the answers sung by the audience led by quizmaster and Rotarian Allison Bucknell.

The students impressed with their knowledge and several teams were still in with a chance of winning going into the final stages. But at the end of the 10 rounds St Mary's emerged victorious on 90 points, helped by a maximum score of 20 on their Joker, with St Bart's 7pts behind in second.

Rotary President Catherine Cadogan thanked her organising team and the audience for supporting the event and congratulated all the teams on the high standard of their answers. She then presented the St Mary’s team of Cameron Fawcett, Roberto Cinquegrani and Maya Suberbielle-Garros with the Rotary Trophy and £20 book tokens. The team from St Bart's: Caden Jefferies, Imogen Ray and Cameron Iles each received £10 book tokens as runners up.
