Visit to Crogga

Rotarians on the rails!

A party of some 50 Rotarians, family and friends enjoyed a magical evening recently playing on the miniature railway in the magnificent grounds of Crogga – a splendid Victorian Scottish Baronial mansion just outside Douglas. The present owners of Crogga generously opened the gardens and lake to the Rotary Club of Douglas and provided a team of young enthusiasts to drive the trains and steer the boats. Having had to postpone this event twice due to inclement weather (rain!) the evening was a perfect late summer experience of blue skies and sunshine. In addition to riding as passengers on the various models of trains guests were also able to enjoy a glass or two of sparkling wine to wash down the tasty canapés. Altogether a most enjoyable social occasion but the event also resulted in nearly £350 being raised for the charity, Friends of Chernobyl’s Children. This was the charity chosen by the owners of Crogga to receive half of the proceeds from the ticket sales to the event. Funds were also boosted by one Rotarian making an additional contribution in recognition of the fact that his company business uses the name ‘Crogga’.
