As part of a programme of encouraging new members to visit other Clubs and District meetings, thus enjoying the wider appeal and fellowship of Rotary and seeing how others run their clubs, Fiona and Alistair Risk took Angela and Linda to Orkney for a Rotary visit combined with a rather rushed trip round some of the sites. (New members have already been to the District Assembly and the District Conference, to Thurso, Tain , Inverness Breakfast Club and to Dingwall)
The visit coincided with the Orkney clubs’ AGM and lots of ideas were brought back to East Sutherland from their busy programme of social events, community projects, fund raising ideas and their 3 International projects (RCOES was constantly referred to as a club that actively supported their Malawi project with cash and more!!) Some of the ways they administer their club may be worth our club considering and supporting. The Orkney team were keen to hear about our Youth work and increased membership, something that being a lunch time club is proving less easy to match.
As our photos show the sun shone and the trip was a hugely enjoyable experience—one to be repeated if other members would like to go. The away day team are targeting Ullapool or Skye next - anyone interested??
