Michael Cook qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Glasgow in 1972 and joined the NHS.
Various Finance posts followed before becoming first Board General Manager of Dumfries and Galloway Health Board in 1985 to 1992.
Then Chief Executive of Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, Project Manager of biggest Public Private Partnership in UK, of all the NHS computer systems in Scotland. First CEO of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, part post-graduate department of Liverpool University, part charity, part international health project company.
Joined St John Eye Hospital, Jerusalem, as CEO in 2000 which is the only specialist eye hospital serving East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. The Second Intifada broke out in September, 2000 and the hospital continued to operate throughout the war, dealing with many casualties throughout Palestine.On returning to the UK became General Manager of first Public Health Partnership of health and local authority services in the Western Isles until retiring in 2010.
