The guest speaker at tonight’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was Jens-Peter Voss, the German Consul General based in Edinburgh, and the evening was well attended by Rotarians and guests.
Peter joined the German Diplomatic Service in 1981 and has held various positions in Denmark, China, Italy, Korea and Haiti before coming to Scotland in July 2015.
He explained the workings of the consular office in Edinburgh which looks after the needs of 25,000 Germans based in Scotland and a further 15,000 in the North of England.
The main thrust of his talk was his personal thoughts on Brexit and, given that Peter is retiring from the Diplomatic Service in June, after 38 years, his views were very candid indeed. He spoke about the German motor industry and the many German engineering firms operating in the United Kingdom.
Peter answered a large number of questions put to him by the members.
The musical entertainment for the evening was by Valerie Dunbar, a very accomplished accordionist, and John McDonald proposed a comprehensive vote of thanks.'What We Do' Main Pages:
