On Friday 12th October 2018, around 40 members, partners and friends of Leatherhead Rotary Club attended a special fundraising shuffleboard evening at the Leatherhead Institute in aid of one of the club’s international charities.
After six rousing rounds of shuffleboard, ‘The Navy Larks’ emerged triumphant out of the twelve teams taking part, with a very impressive score of 415, narrowly beating ‘Healthy Softed’ and ‘United Nations’ into second and third place, with scores of 395 and 379 respectively. The very aptly named ‘Just Wanna Have Fun’ picked up the booby prize for coming last, albeit with a still very respectable score of 305.
As well as the shuffleboard itself, everyone present also enjoyed an excellent supper of lasagne and cake, and a raffle helped to raise almost £500 for the Universal Outreach Foundation’s beekeeping program in Liberia, which aims to enhance the annual income of many of the country’s farmers by training them to keep bees and produce honey for sale locally, nationally and even internationally!
