Rotary Club visit to Brize Norton

RAF PTS (Parachute Training School) tour and overview.

On Thursday November 8th, a group of Princes Risborough Rotarians visited the Parachute Training School at RAF Brize Norton.

A very interesting tour and overview of the facility and process for training members of all branches of the armed services was given by Warrant Officer Martin White, who as lead instructor, has only undertaken 5,500 jumps!

A great deal was learnt, including the extensive use of TLAs (three letter acronyms) within the RAF, the fact that the landing speed is around 13 mph, and a modern parachute costs £10,000.

Graeme Card, who organised the excellent trip, bravely demonstrated the flotation device worn by parachutists - his experience can be seen on Youtube at https://youtu.be/du2-uDtzZi4
