"Lawrie and I participated in the 7th annual New Forest Rotary Classic Car Run on Wednesday 1st May. As ever it was a superbly organised event by Bridget and her able assistant Sue Gully.

19 cars lined up in Dan Tanner’s field at Burley and a beautiful display of lovely old ladies it was …Oh and then there was Sally Ball !!

Lawrie waved the cars away at 10am in the hope that they would follow the route, solve the clues and make it to the coffee ( and cake ) stop at The Queen’s Head pub in Broadchalke. It was a pity that everyone made it as otherwise Lawrie and I could have had another slice of cake.

Up until then the weather had been reasonably good but, as we left Broadchalke and headed into the most scenic and beautiful part of the rally ,it started to rain and the very low cloud base really spoilt the views. That was such a shame as Bridget and Sue had , as usual, planned a lovely trip through some of the most beautiful scenery Dorset and Wiltshire have to offer. Still we all had great fun trying to figure out where we were supposed to go and work out the answers to the clues.

At around 1pm we arrived at the wonderful Langton Arms Pub at Tarrant Monkton. This has become our rally finishing point and everyone agreed that it is the perfect place. After a superb 3 course lunch we had a raffle and then Lawrie , on behalf of President Philip , presented the Roger Lees Cup. This cup is awarded annually to the car that Mrs Lees declares to be the one she wants to take home with her. This year it was won by Pauline Baker and her Austin 7 “Nippy"..  This car has no roof so,with the rain and cooler conditions it was very appropriately named.

Apart from Lawrie and I the Club was represented by Ken & Sally and it was wonderful to see John Bloomfield and Janis.  Ray Dawes was there at the beginning to photograph the cars, a job he undertakes every year.

All the documentation for every Rally is done by Ken and for those who have not seen any of it I can assure you that it is of the highest quality. Everyone in the Club should be so proud of the fabulous work that Ken does on our behalf.

Once again, the 38 people who took part in this year’s Rally were unanimous in their admiration of the great job done by Bridget and Sue and we all agreed to meet up again next year. Thank you Bridget and Sue."
