Diversity rules in East Sutherland

.

At this week’s meeting (6th Feb 19) of the Rotary Club of East Sutherland something really special occurred: a meeting of old and new, a merging of experience and enthusiasm, the master and the apprentice perhaps.  Firstly, the speaker on the night was 90-year-old founder member Geoff Smyth regaling everyone about the early years of the club and its founding fathers - there were no ladies in Rotary back in the day.  It was a joy to hear and learn so much about his lifetime love of Service Above Self and the fun of fellowship he experienced all over the World thanks to Rotary.  Secondly, on the same evening the club inducted another new lady member, someone probably 1/3rd of Geoff’s age, Gillian Stephenson from Helmsdale.

The East Sutherland club now has almost 40 members aged from 26 to 90 with a gender split of approximately 50/50 as it approaches its 30th Birthday in March.

If you think you would like to join a vibrant club and have fun helping others then telephone 01408 621609 or check out the web site Sutherland.rotary1010.org.
