Junior Schools Quiz 2019
Monday 25th March: Longleaze Primary Win Junior Schools Quiz
Longleaze beat six other schools to win the annual Junior Schools Quiz on Monday evening.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Royal Wootton Bassett & District for primary schools in the area, teams from Broad Hinton, Broad Town, Longleaze, Lyneham, Noremarsh, St Bartholomew's and St Mary's faced questions on subjects ranging from History and Science through to Sport and Entertainment. Teams had to decide on a round to play their Joker, which doubled their score, and those that chose to play it on the Music round, comprising first lines of songs by current artists, "enjoyed" hearing the answers sung by the audience led by quizmeister and Rotarian Allison Bucknell.
The students impressed with their knowledge and several teams were still in with a chance of winning going into the final stages. But at the end of the 10 rounds Longleaze emerged victorious on 90.5 points, helped by a maximum score of 20 on their Joker, with St Mary's 10pts behind in second.
Rotary President Phil Tanner thanked his organising team and the audience for supporting the event and also St Bartholomew's Academy for hosting this year's event. He congratulated all the teams on the high standard of their answers before presenting the Longleaze team of Mollie Bissett, Arlen Frapwell and Robert Beaumont with the Rotary Trophy and £20 book tokens. The team from St Mary's: David Booth, Max Robinson and Amelie Morley each received £10 book tokens as runners up.
