Dumfries & Galloway Befriending Project (DGBP) was established in 1997 and has grown over the years – and is looking to expand a bit more due to the constant demand and ‘waiting lists’. The aim is to provide short term support to vulnerable 8 to 18 year olds throughout the region and make a real difference to their young lives. This support is provided by trained adult volunteers.
Alex Dickson is a retired police officer and was a Board member of DGBP before standing down in 2014 to become Project Manager. Alex is passionate about the positive impact the volunteer befrienders have on their young person’s life and well-being. He is an Elder and Session Clerk at his church and in his spare time enjoys curling and is a qualified coach.

We have two RotaKids clubs, based in two of our local Primary schools. It is never too early to start making a difference in the community and RotaKids give those aged 7 - 12 the chance to do just that...
