The team was formed in early 2013 and was accepted into the league in October 2013. They are the only womens league ice hockey team in the country and provide a path for junior players to continue their career once they reach 15. The team trains once a week in Dumfries and, in additionto this, they also host weeklyopen sessions for players to come and try ice hockey, regardless of their age or ability, with a view to developing Sharks of the future.

This 2018/19 season, securing second place in the league, has earned them a place at Tophey Weekend, competing for promotion to the premier division.
