Last summer we helped the SEND (Special Educational Needs or Disabilities) group with equipment and prizes for their Family Fun Day in August (See Newsmonger September 2018). SEND have made good use of the equipment that we provided, which helped them to set up a Get Set Club for these youngsters, which runs weekly events for them.
The Get Set Club started up in September with the support of East Sussex County Council’s grant of `Life More Ordinary`. The fund enabled Wave Leisure to keep participants’ costs low at the price of £5.15 per session per child with two members of trained staff running the sessions. The sessions are capped at 5 - 8 young people based on their needs. This gives the children more 1:1 time to progress and form relationships.
Seaford Rotary Club, along with Seaford Martello Rotary Club, made the donations to enable the Club to keep running during May to July so that the SEND kids can continue with these valuable sessions.
It is brilliant to see the good work that they do with the children, and the way the children respond. They clearly benefit greatly from these weekly sessions.
