The weather stayed kind and the event was very well supported. Visitors had many opportunties to purchase refreshments and other merchandise , all in aid of charity.
It looked as if everyone in the Heatons was carrying a programme , map reading skills were very much in order !
We were joined for the afternoon by our district Governor Tony Graves .
This was the seventh Open Gardens organised by the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter and we thank you for your support.
We started in 2012 with twelve private gardens and continued until 2017 when we decided the gardeners deserved to rest for a year.
The event was warmly welcomed back by the Heatons’ community in 2018 and grew into an even more community based event this year with the addition of two local clubs and a new wine bar.
We were delighted to welcome the Heatons’ W.I.who created a “Yarn Storming” event in Heaton Moor park.
West Heaton Tennis, Bowling and Squash Club joined us to showcase their “Kitchen Garden” project and to welcome us into their clubhouse.
The new Heatons wine bar, Cork of the North, created a courtyard garden at the back of their shop specially for the day and opened earlier than usual especially for us .
Sustainable Living in the Heatons(SLH) has worked with St Paul’s pre -school on a new raised bed outside St Paul’s Nursery behind St Paul’s Church.
Last years Open Gardens day raised over £5,000 for various charities , this years total will be posted once we have done the arithmetic !
