This was an excellent evening in which Lance gave us an impressive account of his vision for Gloucester Rugby.
He outlined his business experience of 18 years at Mitsubishi UK of which the last 9 were MD. He turned the business from a loss of 10 million pounds p.a. to a profit of over 40 million! He established a reputation for pioneering electric car sales in the UK and won the Autocar “Outstanding Business Leader of the Year” 2016
During his time at Mitsubishi he pinpointed equestrianism and rugby as key areas for the company’s sponsorship and hence his connection to Gloucester Rugby. 2 years ago he foresaw difficulties for the motor industry and wanted a different challenge and having been on the board for that time he took on the job of CEO
His vision is for the Club to be the best employer in Gloucester,
Excellent! To achieve this he has been communicating with all the departments and setting clear goals.
Exeter, with a new purpose built ground make £14 per head attendance on match days, Gloucester only £4. Reverse that and we would halt the 2 million loss per annum which the owner pays per year.
We apparently have the lowest ratio of beer pumps to attendees, not really a surprise to most of us and he is keen to address the catering deficiencies in the bar and food outlets. He is aware of issues in the communications area both inside the ground on match day but also with the website and ticketing.
It was good to hear that the club are targeting recruits to the front row but they need to be the right people with a long term future at the club. He didn’t say who but sadly it isn’t the “beast’ With the new money from CVC the future of rugby and in particular Gloucester looks good. Lance’s vision is ambitious and by the end of the evening I felt he just might be the man
and by the way - Saracens are a cheating load of bxxxxxxs and have been for years. .
