We hosted a Race Night to raise money for Shelterbox, a charity we have supported in the past (and probably will do again in future!).
Our President Colin had been given some "horses" so we decided to make the most of this and hold a "live action" race night.
We began by marking out a race course, and then our volunteer jockeys, riding sponsored horses, advanced along the course, with their progress determined by the throw of a dice. We even included some "water jumps".
Graham compered the evening for us and many of our spouses and teenagers helped us out on the bar and tote to make a succesful evening run smoothly. A slightly poignant evening as Dan, who like all our family members has grown up with Rotary social events and helping out at fundraising and community events, headed off to university the following day.
We had a pause mid evening for a yummy fish and chip supper.
All in all a fun, though tiring evening, but most importantly we raised £742.45 for Shelterbox, more than covering the cost of one Shelterbox, which was our target.
