All change at Taunton Rotary as President Tom Stobie hands over his chain of office to Rotarian, Revd Tony Coxthumbnail view
Taunton Rotary Club members expressed their thanks and appreciation to outgoing President Tom Stobie for his service over the past year at a ceremony held at Taunton racecourse last week.
Having spoken of the highlights of his special year, President Tom handed over the Chain of Office to Rotarian the Revd Tony Cox who takes on the role of President of the Rotary Club of Taunton for the next twelve months.
The lunch time handover event was made special by the entertainment provided by '8 to the Bar', a newly formed choir of eight women who are also part of the larger choir 'SINGsensational'. Rotarians and visitors were enthralled by the array of songs performed by this wonderful acapella choir, not least because one of their members is Tony's wife, Elaine Cox. The choir are holding a concert on 12th October at the Castle School.
As a final duty, President Tom had the pleasure of handing a cheque for £5,000 to Chris Cutting who received it on behalf of the Musgrove Park League of Friends. The gesture was made all the special because the League of Friends, which raises funds for Musgrove Park Hospital new initiatives, was originally founded by the Taunton Rotary Club. Rotarian Chris Cutting has continued the link with the Club as a result of his involvement with the League of Friends.
The £5,000 donation was made possible because of all the fundraising activities carried out by the Taunton Rotary Club throughout the year. The cheque represents one of many donations to local charities.
Photographs of the special occasion show the choir and the outgoing and incoming Presidents and their respective spouses, Hazel and Elaine, as well as Chris Cutting receiving the cheque.
