At a recent club meeting at The New Forest Inn, Emery Down, New Forest Rotary Club presented £1,000 towards a defibrillator for use by the Community First Responders’ Scheme in Cadnam. The money was provided from the Founder President’s Fund.
Rotarian Jane Wilson-Brown presented the defribillator . The latest, high-spec. machine was received on behalf of the scheme by Colin Hutchman and Sylvie Atkins. They are both volunteer responders and are trained to deal with medical emergencies, sometimes providing lifesaving first aid to a patient in the crucial minutes before the ambulance arrives. One of their skills is the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) which they carry with them in their cars.
Dan Major, a paramedic, and Assistant Community and Engagement Training Officer for South Central Ambulance Service also attended the presentation and gave an informative ‘question and answer chat’ about the scheme and the lifesaving role defibrillators play.
First Responders are dedicated and hardworking volunteers who are committed to saving lives. The Club is honoured to support them by providing this essential equipment.
