Professor Gatrad Consultant Paediatrician at Walsall Manor Hospital will be making a presentation on behalf of WASUP the World Against Single Use Plastic - it would really be great to have a large audience for that meeting as it may well lead us on to our next big community project as it is bound to be most thought provoking.
WASUP is about:
- Raising awareness in all sectors of the community (schools, businesses, places of worship etc) thorough talks events and the social media - we are on facebook, instagarm, www.wasupme.com, on billboards on the motorway and have a WASUP song and an APP (for android) for Walsall active in some supermarkets in Walsall which reminds you not to forget your re-usable bag in the car before you enter the store.
- Educating the children in schools about the dangers of plastic and teach them about recycling (50 Schools are members)
- Litter picking both in streets and the waterways by all sectors of the community. (Ocado, WHG, McDonalds, Blue Coat School, Walsall College and many other institutions do regular litter picks and canal cleans)
- Putting pressure on manufacturers to use less plastic in their packaging or in some cases none e.g Manor Hospital will decrease by 10% use of single use plastic in a year.
