Club member Tom McPherson was tonight's speaker at the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw's Zoom meeting.
Using an excellent PowerPoint presentation, Tom took us on a whistle stop tour of his many holidays in Italy. Starting in 1967 when Tom and Janette set off in their very own ‘Z Car’, a Ford Zephyr, to San Remo, on the Mediterranean coast of Liguria. Tom reminded us that in 1967 the, then. Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, imposed a holiday currency limit of £50 per person when travelling abroad. Tom said that on their return to the UK they had just enough money left for fish suppers, which they enjoyed at Birmingham!
From San Remo, through the medium of Tom’s holiday snaps, we were taken to Imperia, Rapallo, Portofino, Viareggio, Pisa, Florence, Livorno, Lake Garda, Verona, Venice, finishing at San Marino. A very enjoyable evening.
