Rotary Club of Buxton Young Chef Competition - 2019 Local Heat

Two young chefs from Buxton, Ruben Carroll and Pearle Smedley-Castle, were in competition in Mansfield on Saturday Feb 8th.

The Rotary Club of Buxton held the local heat of the National Rotary Young Chef Competition at Buxton Community School on Saturday November 16th.

Competitors had the very difficult task of creating a healthy 3 course meal in just 2 hours with ingredients costing no more than £20.

Two local industry professionals, John Cornwell and Emma Blackwood, scored the contestants using a range of different criteria, not just taste and presentation. The four contestants all rose to the challenge magnificently, especially considering their ages ranged from just 12 to 16 years of age.

The winner Ruben Carroll and runner-up Pearle Smedley-Castle, entered  the District heat in Mansfield on February 8th . They both excelled in creating wonderful, healthy meals and were unlucky not progress through to the Regional final in Leeds.

Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland holds a number of National Youth Competitions and details can be found on the National Rotary website.

We would particularly like to thank Hannah Edwards and the staff at Buxton Community School for supporting this initiative.
