Speaking on "Finland at War 1939 - 1944"

A brief synopsis of Ian’s talk on “Finland at War 1939 – 44”

  • The Winter War when Finland resisted the mighty Soviet Red Army in 1939, eventually leading to an armistice in 1940, with territory lost.
  • The Finnish coalition with Germany to expel the Soviets from Finnish territory in 1941.
  • Finally in 1944, a further armistice with the Soviets and the unhappy withdrawal of the Germans from Finland.
  • Throughout the war years and after, how Finland managed to maintain its independence.
