14th
March 2020
Dear Fellow Rotarian,
Coronavirus
I have been taking soundings from some members over the last couple of days about
whether we should be continuing to hold club meetings and I have found widespread
support for my view that we should suspend club meetings for the next couple of weeks.
National guidance on public events seems to be changing almost daily and public concern
has undoubtedly increased. While it would be possible to continue to hold club meetings
and let individual members decide whether to attend, I have taken the view that it is better
to remove uncertainty and simply suspend meetings. We can review the position at the end
of March when guidance may have become clearer.
In the meantime, we have a responsibility to keep ourselves and our family and friends safe
and therefore avoid situations in which the virus can be easily passed on. I hope you are
understanding and supportive of this decision. Inevitably there will be an impact on various
planned events over the next few weeks and months and decisions about these will require
to be taken in good time and communicated widely. We will ensure that this is done in
collaboration with the relevant convenors.
To be clear, there will be no meeting of The Rotary Club of St Andrews on 18th
March or 25th
March.
Do please feel free to contact me if you wish to follow up on this message.
Very best wishes,
John Christie
